Make Your Mark 2014

Make Your Mark
In case you missed last year’s star-studded Make Your Mark event, you might not know what we have up our sleeve next Wednesday night for our Make Your Mark Siren Wednesday.  Each year we have a “suns out, guns out” party celebrating YOU, our members.  This year is no exception!

“Well…” you say, “all Siren Wednesdays are pretty awesome.  How is this different from any other Siren?”

This is the time of the year that we acknowledge the individuals that have been HUGE contributors to ImpactCR and our Service and Leadership committees and have made their mark throughout the last year.  At 6:00 p.m. we will have a short program to look back at all of our accomplishments over the last 10 months and share what is to come in 2015!

Join us on Wednesday, November 5th at White Star Ale House from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. for some delicious food, great company and your first drink on us!  Boom.  You didn’t even see that coming!!  So we can plan accordingly, please RSVP to let us know you will be celebrating the awesomeness that was 2014 and welcome in the new year.  So, it’s kind of like a New Years Eve party in November!  Love it!

This would not have been possible without some AMAZING sponsors!  Join us  in thanking Principal Financial Group, Farmers State Bank and University of Iowa – PM Program.  See you there!

MOvember Mashup | SHAVE The Date

20131112-094457.jpg

You may have noticed a plethora of beards and ‘stashes being sported for No Shave November or MOvember. While some beards and ‘staches may only be around for 30 days, some wearers hope to make a lasting impression. By not shaving for a cause.

Following a successful event last year, ImpactCR members Ben Anderson and Nate Holler are at it again and are hosting another MOvember party. Come for the mustaches and stay for the football!

Here are the deets:

WHAT | A MOvember party to watch Iowa vs Michigan and raise money for the Hayden Fry Prostate Cancer Research Center at the University of Iowa.

WHERE |Bata’s Restaurant | 1006 3rd St SE in the NewBo District

WHEN | Saturday, November 23rd @ 11:00 A.M.

Sport your best looking ‘stashe or preferred facial hair (no one said it has to be real 😉 ) and join them to watch the Hawks beat the Wolverines. There will be some Hawkeye Trivia, prizes, and complementary appetizers. Don’t forget to bring your checkbook and help them reach their goal of $1000 to donate to cancer research.

Need more info? Email Ben Anderson (b.michael.anderson@gmail.com) or Nate Holler (holler.nate@gmail.com) or check out their Facebook event page for more.

BigWig Lunch Talk – Kraig Paulsen

Have you ever heard of ImpactCR’s BLTs?  Not of the Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato persuasion. YUM!  The BigWig Lunch Talk kind of BLTs.  Although, it kinda makes you hungry just thinking about it, right?  Good thing our BigWig Lunch Talks happen over … um… lunch. 😉

I digress…

This Thursday, October 25th our Leadership and Service Committee will be hosing Iowa House Speaker Kraig Paulsen over lunch.  Have you ever wanted to rub elbows with a top dog, a head honcho, the Boss Man, el Cap-i-tan, the Godfather?… Ok, that might be going a little too far.  How ’bout a swell Iowa elected leader?  Works for me!

[Kraig Paulsen]

Speaker Kraig Paulsen, who resides in Cedar Rapids, has served District 35 since 2002.  He currently works as an attorney for CRST International, Inc and has previously served as the House Judiciary Chair, the House Minority Whip (2 Years) and the House Republican Leader.  He received his BBA from Iowa State University, MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and JD from the University of Iowa College of Law.

Join us at our BLT (with your BLT!) at the Metro Economic Alliance from 12 – 1 p.m. for a conversation with Kraig Paulsen.  It’s totally free!  Just like many of our other events.  I hope to see you there!

Another HUGE thanks goes out to our sponsor University of Iowa School of Management MBA – PM program.  I’m starting to think they really like us!  They have continued to support many of our events and I foresee a very exciting future between ImpactCR and the University of Iowa MBA- PM program.

Also, don’t forget about the Judicial Retention Forum at the National Czech and Slovak Museum from 6 – 7:30 p.m.  If you haven’t already, check it out here.

Siren Recap – Dublin City Pub

Hello friends!  I know you heard the sirens yesterday morning and if you’re like me you were probably reaching for your  second  third cup of coffee already.  Getting to (and maybe over) that hump is really hard.  Thank goodness you had Siren to look forward to after work! Riiiiiiiight?!

Thank you to all of you who made it out to Dublin City Pub last night!  We saw A TON of new faces – even a couple who had just moved here on SATURDAY!  How cool is that?!  They just knew how awesome we were and had to show up!  Ok… maybe I’m making that part up, but still.  It’s really great they stopped out to introduce themselves to us!  If you couldn’t make it, we had some very tasty apps graciously provided by University of Iowa – Tippie School of Management’s Cedar Rapids MBA-PM program, as well as some awesome mingling and conversation with some of the local elected leaders and candidates (who are highlighted here).

Here are some pics to recap Siren Wednesday at Dublin City Pub:

For those of you who didn’t make it this time… maybe because you’re a little shy, work ran late, kids had soccer practice, deadlines are approaching, etc. etc.  no worries!  This happens every month and we always have fun stuff going on –  Committee Mingle on October 10th (more on that later), Next Gen Summit (info here), Ugly Holiday Sweater Party (it’s coming sooner than you think), and *SO* much more!  Keep coming back!  I love telling you the goings on with ImpactCR, but don’t forget to check us out on Facebook, Twitter and if you haven’t, SIGN UP already for our jam packed e-blasts!

{What more do you want to know about ImpactCR?  Board member highlight?  YP highlight?  Company highlight?  Tell me what you want to see on here, and you just might!}

Siren Wednesday @ Dublin City Pub

So I know you’re saying, I read your post about ImpactCR last week and I know Siren Wednesday is coming up!  But I don’t know where to go! I am so proud you remembered… and it’s a Monday! 😉  Yes, Siren Wednesday just happens to be this week and if you’ve been with us for a while, you know we usually have a little something up our sleeve for the October Siren at Dublin City Pub.

As I mentioned here, our Civic and Community Action Committee creates opportunities to provide young professionals with information and ways to connect to community issues.  Since November brings elections, Members and Mixers has teamed up with them to connect you with some of the political leaders in our community.

Here are some of the local elected officials and candidates that you might find at Dublin City Pub for Siren Wednesday:

Ben Rogers | Linn County Supervisor

Tyler Olson | State Legislature

Brent Oleson | Linn County Supervisor
Ben Lange | Candidate for US Congress in IA – 01
Don’t worry if you’re not the political type.  Everyone is welcome!  Besides, the main idea of Siren Wednesday is to network and mingle, we are just excited to have some special guests this week.  A *HUGE* thank you to this month’s sponsor, the University of Iowa’s Tippie School of Management’s Cedar Rapids MBA-PM Program.
Don’t forget, Siren Wednesday starts at 5:30!  See you there!
{Should we have more special guests at Sirens throughout the year?  Who do you want to see there?}
