Make Your Mark 2014

Make Your Mark
In case you missed last year’s star-studded Make Your Mark event, you might not know what we have up our sleeve next Wednesday night for our Make Your Mark Siren Wednesday.  Each year we have a “suns out, guns out” party celebrating YOU, our members.  This year is no exception!

“Well…” you say, “all Siren Wednesdays are pretty awesome.  How is this different from any other Siren?”

This is the time of the year that we acknowledge the individuals that have been HUGE contributors to ImpactCR and our Service and Leadership committees and have made their mark throughout the last year.  At 6:00 p.m. we will have a short program to look back at all of our accomplishments over the last 10 months and share what is to come in 2015!

Join us on Wednesday, November 5th at White Star Ale House from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. for some delicious food, great company and your first drink on us!  Boom.  You didn’t even see that coming!!  So we can plan accordingly, please RSVP to let us know you will be celebrating the awesomeness that was 2014 and welcome in the new year.  So, it’s kind of like a New Years Eve party in November!  Love it!

This would not have been possible without some AMAZING sponsors!  Join us  in thanking Principal Financial Group, Farmers State Bank and University of Iowa – PM Program.  See you there!

Siren Wednesday: Cooper’s Mill

Siren Wednesday 6:5

Summer is (finally) in full bloom – so it’s only natural that our June Siren Wednesday will be hosted at a pub that’s named after one of the oldest flour mills in Cedar Rapids –the Cooper’s Mill

Network with other YP’s and help celebrate the rich history of this locally-owned pub — a newly remodeled establishment following the Flood of 2008. Cooper’s Mill is proud to showcase a new menu with us, offering complimentary appetizers (how lucky are we?)! Drinks specials will be available, too.

This monthly networking event is free and open to the public.  Join us tonight from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Cooper’s Mill | 100 F Ave NW.

Twisted Siren Wednesday

While the sirens have already blared this month, it does not mean that Siren Wednesday has gone by the wayside.  Rather, it is coming back with more bells and whistles than ever before!  This month, Members and Mixers is bringing you… wait for it… Twisted Siren Wednesday.

Siren with a twist, you say?

Why yes, I do say.  This month, we will be bringing you a Siren like never before!  Many come to Siren for the social aspect, to meet new people and network.  Others come to catch up with friends, have a beer or two and celebrate Hump Day.  No matter what your reasons for attending Siren Wednesday, this Wednesday will be a little different.  A little like speed dating.

Get your mouse off that Red ‘X’ button!  Just chill.

speed networking

A little mix of speed dating, but speed networking style. Sounds awesome, right!?  For those of you who find your cozy little table and stay put for the duration of Siren, this is for you.  It won’t last long, but there’s no doubt that you will make a ton of connections.  Even if you don’t make a ton of connections, you might make one or two important ones.

Now that you shy ones have stopped hyperventilating, gather some business cards and get ready for some fun tomorrow after work!  We will be seeing you from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at The Vault, formerly known as Piano Lounge, aka Penguin’s Comedy Club, aka Harrington’s Sports Bar.  Right.

The Vault

If you’ve ever dreamed of being a comedian, or would like to watch others who dream of being a comedian, or those who enjoy getting laughed at with, Comedy Open Mic Night starts at 7:30!  $2 liquid courage domestic bottles all night long and there’s no cover!

See you tomorrow night!

We Want You!

There.  I said it.  ImpactCR wants you to join our really awesome group of young professionals!  I’m not going to be shy any longer.  Who doesn’t want to be wanted?  Right?! 😉  Exactly.  Which is why those of you who want to become more involved with ImpactCR should tell us how awesome you are and why you should be on the ImpactCR Board of Advisors.

Do you have a vision of what you think is the ideal community for the Now and Next Generation?  Have you already been working toward that vision?

Are you in love with Cedar Rapids and not care who knows it?  Us too!  Which is why we need to meet, so we can be friends and create a community of young pros who all want to have fun and do some really awesome things together.

If you aren’t quite sure what ImpactCR is, or what we do, then you haven’t been reading our blog long enough.  Just Kidding!  That’s why I’ll tell you where you can can get the best information (here and here).

If you’re interested in applying to be on the board, check out the application and get it back to the awesome Kelly Slaughter at kslaughter@cedarrapids.org by 5 p.m. Friday, November 9th.  Do you have a few questions or want to meet a few of the board members before sending in your application?  No worries!  You’ll be able to find us on Wednesday at Vito’s on 42nd for the last Siren Wednesday of the year.  It’s happening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  What’s Siren?  Check out the deets from the last Siren Wednesday at Dublin City Pub (here and here)!

Stay tuned for details on the Ugly Holiday Sweater Party on December 1st!  You’d better start planning your entry for the “Best of Ugly” walk off!  As always, see you soon!

Siren Recap – Dublin City Pub

Hello friends!  I know you heard the sirens yesterday morning and if you’re like me you were probably reaching for your  second  third cup of coffee already.  Getting to (and maybe over) that hump is really hard.  Thank goodness you had Siren to look forward to after work! Riiiiiiiight?!

Thank you to all of you who made it out to Dublin City Pub last night!  We saw A TON of new faces – even a couple who had just moved here on SATURDAY!  How cool is that?!  They just knew how awesome we were and had to show up!  Ok… maybe I’m making that part up, but still.  It’s really great they stopped out to introduce themselves to us!  If you couldn’t make it, we had some very tasty apps graciously provided by University of Iowa – Tippie School of Management’s Cedar Rapids MBA-PM program, as well as some awesome mingling and conversation with some of the local elected leaders and candidates (who are highlighted here).

Here are some pics to recap Siren Wednesday at Dublin City Pub:

For those of you who didn’t make it this time… maybe because you’re a little shy, work ran late, kids had soccer practice, deadlines are approaching, etc. etc.  no worries!  This happens every month and we always have fun stuff going on –  Committee Mingle on October 10th (more on that later), Next Gen Summit (info here), Ugly Holiday Sweater Party (it’s coming sooner than you think), and *SO* much more!  Keep coming back!  I love telling you the goings on with ImpactCR, but don’t forget to check us out on Facebook, Twitter and if you haven’t, SIGN UP already for our jam packed e-blasts!

{What more do you want to know about ImpactCR?  Board member highlight?  YP highlight?  Company highlight?  Tell me what you want to see on here, and you just might!}

Siren Wednesday @ Dublin City Pub

So I know you’re saying, I read your post about ImpactCR last week and I know Siren Wednesday is coming up!  But I don’t know where to go! I am so proud you remembered… and it’s a Monday! 😉  Yes, Siren Wednesday just happens to be this week and if you’ve been with us for a while, you know we usually have a little something up our sleeve for the October Siren at Dublin City Pub.

As I mentioned here, our Civic and Community Action Committee creates opportunities to provide young professionals with information and ways to connect to community issues.  Since November brings elections, Members and Mixers has teamed up with them to connect you with some of the political leaders in our community.

Here are some of the local elected officials and candidates that you might find at Dublin City Pub for Siren Wednesday:

Ben Rogers | Linn County Supervisor

Tyler Olson | State Legislature

Brent Oleson | Linn County Supervisor
Ben Lange | Candidate for US Congress in IA – 01
Don’t worry if you’re not the political type.  Everyone is welcome!  Besides, the main idea of Siren Wednesday is to network and mingle, we are just excited to have some special guests this week.  A *HUGE* thank you to this month’s sponsor, the University of Iowa’s Tippie School of Management’s Cedar Rapids MBA-PM Program.
Don’t forget, Siren Wednesday starts at 5:30!  See you there!
{Should we have more special guests at Sirens throughout the year?  Who do you want to see there?}
