I don’t know if you know, but tomorrow is Wednesday. It’s not just any Wednesday, but one of 12 Wednesdays that happen every year. It’s the first Wednesday of the month, aka Siren Wednesday.

Have you been to Lion Bridge Brewing Company yet?! Hopefully you have, but if not, I seriously hope you can make it tomorrow night! Located in the heart of Czech Village, Lion Bridge offers local brews, as well as guest taps and artisan sodas. Not to mention their delicious “beer-centric” appetizers. We know you will not be disappointed!

Join ImpactCR Wednesday night (June 4th) at Lion Bridge Brewing Company located at 59 16th Ave SW from 5:30 – 7:30 for some networking at this very cool local establishment! See you there!

You Know Everybody!

Happy Siren Wednesday!  I know you already know Siren is at The Carl & Mary Koehler History Center, but did you know that there will be complementary appetizers from Biaggi’s, generously provided by University of Iowa Community Credit Union?  Have you been to The History Center yet?  I have not been there since I was in middle or high school, and I am definitely looking forward to attending this event!

The real reason for my post today is to tell you what I learned about networking at Go Blog Social  in Kansas City last weekend.  A blogger conference?  Really?  What can you learn about networking there? OK, so maybe not all of you are saying that, but I know there are people out there who don’t really know what goes on at blog conference.  A ton of networking!  Just sayin’!

One of the speakers at the conference was Marcy Twete, Founder and CEO of Career Girl Network and was definitely one of my favorite speakers of the event.  Networking is something that I have been trying to work on, especially since I am a little shy in those situations and not always a fan of talking about myself to people I haven’t met before.  Don’t get me wrong, I love hearing all about you!

My favorite lesson from Marcy included this quote:

Networking Quote

What need do you have to fill at tonight’s (or any) networking event?  Are you new to the area and want to make friends or business connections?  Are you an employer scoping out the local YP talent?  Are you a social media enthusiast looking to grow your network in person as well?  Do you like to unwind after work with a nice cold adult beverage, and ImpactCR hosts the coolest event the first Wednesday of the month?

No matter what need you have to fill, networking is a great way to create partnerships or relationships and have an opportunity to grow your business, no matter what it may be.

So why is this post titled, You Know Everybody?  Marcy wrote a book of the same title, You Know Everybody! A Career Girl’s Guide to Building a Network that Works.  Wouldn’t you love to walk into White Star, know almost everyone in there, and the person you’re with says, “WOW!  You know everybody!”  That was pretty much Marcy’s “A-ha” moment in penning this book.

I just started Marcy’s book and I can’t wait to report back about what I learned!  If you can’t wait to read it yourself, you can purchase your own copy here, and don’t forget to visit her website for so much more!  Stay tuned!

Siren Wednesday: Cooper’s Mill

Siren Wednesday 6:5

Summer is (finally) in full bloom – so it’s only natural that our June Siren Wednesday will be hosted at a pub that’s named after one of the oldest flour mills in Cedar Rapids –the Cooper’s Mill

Network with other YP’s and help celebrate the rich history of this locally-owned pub — a newly remodeled establishment following the Flood of 2008. Cooper’s Mill is proud to showcase a new menu with us, offering complimentary appetizers (how lucky are we?)! Drinks specials will be available, too.

This monthly networking event is free and open to the public.  Join us tonight from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Cooper’s Mill | 100 F Ave NW.

Siren Recap – Dublin City Pub

Hello friends!  I know you heard the sirens yesterday morning and if you’re like me you were probably reaching for your  second  third cup of coffee already.  Getting to (and maybe over) that hump is really hard.  Thank goodness you had Siren to look forward to after work! Riiiiiiiight?!

Thank you to all of you who made it out to Dublin City Pub last night!  We saw A TON of new faces – even a couple who had just moved here on SATURDAY!  How cool is that?!  They just knew how awesome we were and had to show up!  Ok… maybe I’m making that part up, but still.  It’s really great they stopped out to introduce themselves to us!  If you couldn’t make it, we had some very tasty apps graciously provided by University of Iowa – Tippie School of Management’s Cedar Rapids MBA-PM program, as well as some awesome mingling and conversation with some of the local elected leaders and candidates (who are highlighted here).

Here are some pics to recap Siren Wednesday at Dublin City Pub:

For those of you who didn’t make it this time… maybe because you’re a little shy, work ran late, kids had soccer practice, deadlines are approaching, etc. etc.  no worries!  This happens every month and we always have fun stuff going on –  Committee Mingle on October 10th (more on that later), Next Gen Summit (info here), Ugly Holiday Sweater Party (it’s coming sooner than you think), and *SO* much more!  Keep coming back!  I love telling you the goings on with ImpactCR, but don’t forget to check us out on Facebook, Twitter and if you haven’t, SIGN UP already for our jam packed e-blasts!

{What more do you want to know about ImpactCR?  Board member highlight?  YP highlight?  Company highlight?  Tell me what you want to see on here, and you just might!}
